Statement from the Secure Immigration Alliance in Support of H.R. 9535, the Securing Agriculture's Workforce Act of 2026
The Secure Immigration Alliance commends Chairman GT Thompson for his continued leadership in addressing the agricultural labor shortage crisis facing American farms and food producers. As Chairman of the House Agriculture Committee, Rep. Thompson has consistently demonstrated a clear-eyed understanding of the challenges facing growers, ranchers, and rural communities across the country, and H.R. 9535, the Securing Agriculture's Workforce Act of 2026 (SAWA), reflects that leadership. We also want to thank the bipartisan group of 49 Members of Congress who have signed on as original cosponsors of this important legislation. Their support is deeply appreciated.
This legislation represents a practical, forward-looking approach to modernizing our agricultural workforce system — one that recognizes the urgent need to stabilize the labor supply our food security depends on, while providing a fair and workable pathway for the workers who plant, harvest, and process the food that reaches American tables every day.
We are grateful for Chairman Thompson's willingness to tackle a policy area that has too often been mired in gridlock, and we look forward to continuing to work with Chairman Thompson and the cosponsors of SAWA as this process moves ahead. We remain committed to helping refine and strengthen SAWA's provisions to ensure the strongest possible outcome for both agricultural employers and the workforce they depend on.
